Right now, everything is exploding, and you feel alone, and even ashamed.

This feeling is isolating, and it seems you’re the only one struggling or failing.

Everyone else seems to have their lives together, so why don’t you?

You know you could use some help, but you don’t know where to begin.

It is easy to slide into isolation when we’re feeling down, but this is the exact opposite of the action that is most likely to help us climb out of that pit. We all are apprehensive about the unknown and no one likes to feel vulnerable. However, we must find our people and find a way to climb out. Relief, community, and action are near. Working with a group of women in group therapy can help. We are communal by nature. Why not walk-through life's complications with a supportive group of women who get it. And more importantly, get you!

Your voice matters and I want to provide a healthy and safe space for you to breathe with like-minded and different women who are going through similar struggles. Try working with a support group for women in Long Beach, CA, Orange County, CA, or Los Angeles County, CA.

Reasons to Come to Group Therapy

Support groups are great for creating a healthy and consistent environment for you to decompress. There is a wide range of reasons women may opt to join a support group. Here are some of the common reasons:

  • You may be maintaining an unhealthy relationship

  • Or you’re struggling to establish boundaries.

  • Feeling stuck, stagnant, or unable to get out of your own head.

  • You’re feeling unmotivated and cannot move forward.

  • Perhaps you’re unsure what the next steps should be.

  • You’re having difficulty socializing and sharing with others.

  • Rumination and being present are difficult.

  • You’re stuck in the past or living in the future.

  • Or you find yourself withdrawing in order to recover from a traumatic experience

  • You’re struggling to find a consistent support system.

First and foremost, what you’re going through can feel isolating. Sometimes this can feel shameful, especially if you feel you’re the only one going through a tough time. Trust me when I tell you, you haven’t failed. We don't all have it together. Seasons come and go when all the cards stack up and others fall.  When we don’t have a community, we can easily get down and allow bad situations to become worse. It is time to get help.

There may be many reasons why group therapy does not sound appealing to you. You may be worried about how you’re going to be perceived by others, or you may worry about making a fool out of yourself. Such as saying something silly. Perhaps, you may worry about sharing your innermost personal thoughts with others and there is the fear of being judged. Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety or distrust? Perhaps, the fear of speaking in front of strangers or social anxiety is making you feel as though nobody cares about your problems. This can leave you feeling hopeless or beyond help to anyone. Trust me that’s far from true. Likewise, you may be concerned about the group structure and confidentiality.

Confidentiality and structure are of utmost importance to the group therapy dynamic. This is where the group begins. We establish the rules and go from there. Your therapist's role is to be an active guide in the process. You are encouraged to but are not required to verbally participate, it is at your own time and at your own pace. In therapy, it is incredibly important to maintain a safe environment for everyone. When we experience loneliness and isolation, this tends to breed further problems, whereas a group can facilitate healing.

Healing Generations Counseling Approach to Group Therapy in Long Beach, CA, Orange County, CA, or Los Angeles County, CA

At my therapy practice, the group dynamic can help you gain a little bit of perspective about your own struggle. My role is to be there to guide the group and to share specific strategies and education. Additionally, I will provide tools to aid learning to help you reach your goals, as I facilitate self-exploration, provide support, and encourage group cohesion. I want to help clients see things from a new perspective, which may illuminate new ways to take on old problems and new strategies to overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable.

At the end of group therapy, clients are better able to move forward when they know other people in the group are holding them accountable for achieving their goals. Group therapy provides a wonderful way to give support and receive support. Not only will you feel you are not alone, but you often feel more connected and understood. You will be validated and understand that the obstacles you’re dealing with are normal. Being supported by others is a healing process and being able to receive feedback, provides a new perspective. This is called catharsis. This principle is based on the healing powers of sharing with others; talking through your feelings and experiences in a group can help relieve pain, guilt, and stress. I hope to help you develop this. Ultimately, the group settings teach social conversation skills and help patients to develop crucial listening and understanding skills.
